When you are downloading The Sims 2 Custom Content you need to put the files in the "Downloads" Folder in your documents. If you don't have that folder create a folder in your Sims 2 Folder and title it Downloads.
You may have to unzip some files if they are in .zip files. I use winrar to unzip them.
I don't play The Sims 2 as much as I used to. I am sorry if any of the links end up not working anymore. Seeing how The Sims 2 is getting older and older not many creators keep their sites up after they have lost interest.
